The Taking Of Pelham 123 cert. ??
Gripping drama with Dennnnzel, and a great bad-guy performance by Travolta. 2009
"I wasn't expecting much from this movie but it turned out to be a lot of fun. Denzel plays
a motorman on the NY subway, spots something strange going on and gets pulled into a dramatic
plan by Travolta to get loads of dollar for hostages. The premise then isn't particularly thought-provoking
but the down to Earth nature of all the characters in the film comes across very well. Denzel does not
try and over-perform and is very good as a natural, confused but concerned character. The shooting style
is gripping and after the pulsing intro the film is shot steadily and clasically which is great. There is
action a-foot which gives it 'whoa' factor - me and my friends all had a fun time watching!" - MJL.
Favourite bit: The sniper & the rat! Also: Travolta's character.
Harry Brown cert. ??
His name is Michael Caine and he's blady brilliant in this one! 2009
"I had heard about this gritty thriller but it had not appealed to me from the trailers. But hod-damn,
was I ever wrong! Caine plays a lonely old man who finds his only real pal murdered by a bunch of chavs in
his neighbourhood. He decides to cleanse the estate in his own fashion, as a past skill comes into play.
What evolves is a very gripping drama, very gutsy and a lot of fun to watch. What's better is that someone
in it has been involved in one of our movies! If you're happy to be shocked but want to see Mr Caine in a truly
classic role then do not miss out on Harry Brown!" - MJL.
Favourite bit: The drug den scene!
