THE SCREEN IS OUR STAGE
Inspired by film, as a young student Mark Lovegrove shot his first production; "Oh,
are we on?" alongside Gary Lambourne for a school project in 1996. Introduced to
George Baker, and forming the name 'Team Spirit', the trio went on to produce some
animated shorts, "Arthur & Dog". Mark wanted to focus on fiction work and at the
age of 16, he bought his first own Hi-8 camcorder in 1998. The next day he and Rikki Paxford
shot 'The Bomb Disposers' - a short, fun production that was later seen and enjoyed by a
reviewer for Empire magazine. From that day, 'Mod&Cyorp Movies' was formed, and productions
such as "Tornado Chasers" and "Alien Fing" were born. None of these productions were serious,
they were simply for our own experience.
By 2002, the name 'Mod&Cyorp Movies' was dropped, and our production house became 'Anarchy
Pictures'. Within a couple of years we started to learn mini-DV film-making and have been using
that format ever since. Under the new name, we created memorable productions including "The
Falling Tree" and "Game".
In 2005 came a whole new revamp to the direction we wanted to take, and new abilities
including access to the internet meant we could start to showcase our productions online.
Mark felt that although the name 'Anarchy Pictures' stood out, that a new, friendlier
name was needed for the company - and so created 'Bigphat Films'. Although our name has changed
nothing else about us or our productions have - they have remained quirky & entertaining,
unique & well-made. Enjoyed by many, we already have a recognised reputation. We
are constantly learning & enjoy watching our own films as well as others. We hope
you enjoy the ones we are able to release - and if you ever have any ideas
you can get in touch. Let's see where it leads...
Did you know?
We love the world of film and have tried to contribute where possible. Here are some of our all-time
great achievements and equally unfortunate failures...
We asked local film star Jeremy Irons to appear in a production in 2001. He wished us the
best but was unable to appear. The film was never made.
The shot of Birkey poking his head up from long riverside grass in the Ginger In The Dark 3
trailer features a famous garden in the background, director Tim Burton's!
Smoking Kills has had surprising success in China and Japan.
Hollywood writer SS Wilson showed his support for our Tremors fan-film On New Ground
